Number of problem banks at 15

Regulators have taken
over 36 lenders this year, including
BankUnited Financial Corp. in Florida on
May 21 and Silverton Bank of Atlanta on
May 1, which combined cost the FDIC’s
deposit insurance fund $6.2 billion.
Twenty-one banks collapsed in the
quarter, the most since late 1992, as
the pace of failures accelerated amid
the worst crisis since the Great
Depression.
The cost of the US government's
borrowing could be the recovery
If governments borrow so
much and long-term rates rise as a
consequence, they will crowd out other
borrowers and push up the cost of
finance for everyone else. So people
wanting mortgages, or companies seeking
to replace scare bank loans with bond
issues will have to pay more for their
money. The result will be that far from
boosting the economy, high levels of
government borrowing might start to
hinder the recovery.
Home prices fall by record 19.1%

Metro Detroit home prices

Enhanced
licenses increasingly popular with
residents
Monroe Evening News e-edition May 27,
2009: LANSING (AP) — More than 13,000
Michigan residents have bought the
state’s new enhanced driver’s licenses
and identification cards in their first
month of existence. Secretary of State
Terri Lynn Land said Tuesday demand has
increased to
about 600 requests a day in the last two
weeks. State residents are expressing a
preference for an enhanced driver’s
license that would carry digitally
stored information such as
fingerprints. Nearly 70 percent favor
using an enhanced driver’s license
instead of using a passport to
strengthen border security.What kind of
propaganda is this when there are more
than 7 million licensed drivers in
Michigan? At best it's real fuzzy math!

The Failure Of The
Mortgage Modification System Threatens
Housing
A report about to be issued by credit rating
agency Fitch says that a large number of the
people who get better terms for their
monthly payments still walk away from their
homes. According to The Wall Street Journal,
“Fitch said a conservative projection was
that between 65% and 75% of modified
subprime loans will fall 60-days or more
delinquent within 12 months of the loan
change.” That makes the problem so severe
that any effort to turn home prices back in
the right direction is likely to fail.
Democrats Hire
Speed Reader to Read Cap and Trade Bill
Democrats will stop at nothing to ensure
that this bill passes before Americans
realize that this bill is going to screw
them big time. It is more important to
them to pass legislation on the scam
that is known as global warming than it
is for them to at least allow the people
to hear what is in this bill.
John Dingell
Congressman and the Global Warming
Bill
Right now, a proposal with
potentially disastrous consequences
is moving through Congress, and your
Congressman, Representative John
Dingell, is on the committee of
jurisdiction. This so-called
“cap-and-trade” legislation would
ration and tax American energy in
the name of fighting global
warming—causing millions of American
jobs and trillions of taxpayer
dollars to be lost, while cooling
global temperatures a negligible
amount.

was signed on January 27 and

Friedman Predicted the
Destruction of the Dollar
Everything Barack Obama, the
Federal Reserve, and
Congress are doing was
predicted in startling
detail almost two decades
ago by a famous Nobel
Prize-winning economist.
His name was Milton
Friedman. Though he passed
away in 2006, in his
prophetic book, Friedman
showed how, facing massive
deficits, the U.S.
government would
dramatically increase the
money supply; why foreign
countries would stop buying
our debt; how the Fed would
start buying our Treasury
bills; and why this would
call cause massive
inflation. He even predicted
that our officials would
claim inflation was no
problem at all. Amazingly
all of this is coming to
pass! You see the end result
of that process in countries
like Zimbabwe today, where
prices double every day, and
it now takes a $10 billion
Zimbabwe note to buy a
single loaf of bread -
assuming you can find one.
Rep.Murtha is no rookie

corruption
Rep. Murtha has a long
practice of trading
lucrative earmarks for
generous campaign
donations. In 2008, he
earmarked $192 million

first half of 2009 he
requested $134 million,
including $75 million in
defense spending.
History of

Currently MSNBC.com
is running a poll to
which almost fifteen
million Americans
have responded. They
posed the question,
"Should the motto
'In God We Trust!'
remain on U.S.
currency?"
An overwhelming 88%
responded with YES,
stating that the
"motto has
historical and
patriotic
significance and
does nothing to
establish a state
religion."
The remaining 12%
voted no, noting
that it violates the
principle of
separation of church
and state.

When a Fee is not a Fee. (Or, Another Way to Tax You)
The definition of a fee is a renumeration for a service rendered. If you want to use the park, you pay a fee. Under this legislation, everybody pays regardless if they ever enter a state park or recreation area. So, you are no longer paying a fee to use the park, you are being taxed for the state having
a park, whether you use it or not. The question that must be asked is how much more revenue does this bring to the state coffers? As far as I am concerned, this is why they are making the change. It is simply a way to tax you more and increase state revenue without calling it a tax increase.

A Crude Awakening
(2006)
Produced by
award-winning filmmakers Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack, this documentary
examines the world's dependency on oil and the impending chaos that's sure to
follow when the resource is depleted. Straight from the headlines, this
hot-button topic may represent the world's most dire crisis. Through expert
interviews, the film spells out in startling detail the challenge we all face
and underscores our desperate need for alternative energy.
John Adams(2008)
NR
Paul Giamatti stars in this sweeping Emmy and Golden Globe winner for Best
Miniseries that chronicles the astonishing life of founding father John Adams:
revolutionary leader, America's first ambassador to England, the first vice
president and the second president. The iconic cast of characters includes
Abigail Adams (Laura Linney), George Washington (David Morse), Thomas Jefferson
(Stephen Dillane), Benjamin Franklin (Tom Wilkinson) and many more.
Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media(1993)
NR
Funny and provocative, this 1992 documentary explores the political life and
ideas of Noam Chomsky, a world-renowned linguist, intellectual and political
activist. Chomsky illustrates how the media tacitly manipulates public opinion
to further the agendas of the powerful. A compelling examination of the
suppression of news about the U.S.-supported Indonesian invasion and subjugation
of East Timor brings home the point.
Why We Fight
(2005)
Filmed during the Iraq War, this documentary
dissects America's military machine with a keen eye to answering the question:
Why does America engage in war? Through personal stories of soldiers, government
officials, scholars, journalists and innocent victims, the film examines the
political and economic interests and ideological factors, past and present,
behind American militarism. Winner of the 2005 Sundance Grand Jury Award.

The Toledo War: The First Michigan-Ohio Rivalry
The conflict started with a
long-simmering dispute over a narrow wedge of land called the Toledo Strip.
Early maps were famously imprecise, adding to the uncertainty of the true
boundary between the states. When Ohio claimed to the mouth of the Maumee River,
land that according to the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 fell in the territory of
Michigan, the "Toledo War" began.
Liberal Fascism
What really distinguished
fascists from other mainstream movements of the time were proud, "principled" --
as they saw it -- violence and authoritarianism. Fascists took their model of
governance from their experience as soldiers and officers in World War I. They
believed that disciplined violence, military comradeship and obedience to
leaders could solve society's problems.
The Creature from Jekyll Island
The secret meeting on Jekyll
Island in Georgia at which the Federal Reserve was conceived and the birth of
the banking cartel to protect it’s members from competition was formed. The
strategy of how to convince Congress and the public that this cartel was an
agency of the United States Government for which it is not!
